Laura Silver
About Me
I’m Laura Silver, an artist and certified death doula living in Calgary, Alberta. I grew up in what is now Clarington, Ontario, and spent much of my childhood at the Visual Arts Centre—once known as “The Old Mill.” I was often excused from school to study oil painting, watercolour, and drawing alongside people decades older than me. When I was in school, my favourite class by far was art, taught by the talented and inspiring Jane Eccles.
My artistic journey has taken me through many forms, but my heart remains with painting and textile work. For many years, I’ve been exploring what I call “The Art of Small Things”—capturing microscopic images, enlarging them, and interpreting the symmetry and beauty hidden from the naked eye. My work is shaped by deep spiritual beliefs and a fascination with quantum physics.
At fifty-four, I’m thrilled to be starting my Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Alberta University of the Arts. This blog is my space to reflect on my growth as an artist and to highlight the work of female artists from around the world—exploring their creative processes and sharing their stories.
